Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Ujjwala 2.0 scheme today at 12.30 am. It will be started by providing new LPG connections in the Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh through video conferencing. This time in this scheme the government will give free LPG connection as well as a filled cylinder for free.

The connection will be available without address proof

To take advantage of Ujjwala 2.0, migrants will not need to submit a ration card and address proof. The needy family will now be able to take advantage of this scheme by giving their own verified application. This will help in taking forward the vision of the Prime Minister.

1 crore people will get the benefit

A separate fund has been released to distribute 1 crore LPG connections under this scheme in the 2021-22 financial year. These connections will be given to those low-income families who could not join the first phase of the Ujjwala scheme.

Special things related to Ujjwala 2.0

  • Beneficiaries will get a free LPG connection under the scheme.
  • For the first time, cylinder refill will be free.
  • The paperwork will be very less.
  • To take advantage of the scheme, migrants will not need to submit ration cards and address proof.

The scheme was started in 2016

Ujjwala Yojana 1.0 was launched in 2016. Under this, a target was set to distribute gas connections to the women of 5 crore poor families. After this, in 2018, taking this scheme forward, seven more categories of women were started giving its benefit. It also included Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Antyodaya Anna Yojana, Most Backward Classes, tea garden workers, forest dwellers, and people living in islands.
