Authorities in Pakistan's in a shocking decision declared a state of emergency in the province of Punjab due to rising cases of rape and sexual abuse. Punjab Home Minister Atta Tarar while declaring for Emergency said the they were bound to take such a step to deal with the rising rape cases.
Punjab Home Minister Atta Tarar on Sunday said the administration was forced to "declare an emergency to deal with rape cases".Tarar further added that the increasing cases of rape and sexual abuse were a serious matter to both society and government officials as well.
"Four to five cases of rape are being reported daily in Punjab due to which the government is considering special measures to deal with cases of sexual harassment, abuse, and coercion.”
Addressing the issue In a press conference, Tarar stressed that all cases would be reviewed by the Cabinet Committee on Rape and Law and Order. Also the civil society, women rights organisations, teachers, and attorneys would also be held in board to keep a check on such incidents.
Tarar also confirmed that accused in a number of cases had been detained and the government had also launched an anti-rape campaign, students too would be taught about sexual harassment in schools.
