On Wednesday, PM Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the Kushinagar International Airport in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. Kushinagar is also known as the Mahaparinirvana site of Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. The inauguration of an airport equipped with state-of-the-art facilities at this site is being seen as a big gift to the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Airport has been constructed at a cost of Rs 260 crore

Talking about Kushinagar airport, its runway is the largest in Uttar Pradesh. Also, the capacity of the runway built at this airport is 8 flights per hour. That is to say that every hour four flights can land and four flights can take off. It is a 3.2 km long and 45 m wide runway. The CM Yogi Adityanath government had declared Kushinagar as an international airport in June 2020. Kushinagar Airport has been constructed at a cost of Rs 260 crore in collaboration with the Central and State Governments.

Direct flights from the airport for these countries

The terminal of Kushinagar International Airport is spread over 3,600 square meters. This will facilitate the movement of 300 passengers. Flights will be available from Kushinagar Airport to Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam. Tourists landing at the airport and followers of Buddhism will be able to travel to Lumbini, Kushinagar, and Sarnath due to their association with Gautam Buddha. Apart from Shravasti, Kaushambi, Sankisha, and Rajgir of Bihar from here, the journey to Vaishali will also take less time.

The opening ceremony is going to be very special

Buddhist monks from neighboring Sri Lanka will also be present as special guests of the state at the inauguration of the International Airport in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. It is said that a delegation of about 123 people has come from Sri Lanka. The most important thing is that the Sri Lankan delegation has brought with them the metal relic (bone relic) of the Tathagata Lord Buddha to India after 141 years.
