So far 1.19 crore income tax returns have been filed for the financial year 2020-21. According to the Income Tax Department, the daily income tax return (ITR) filing has increased to 3.2 lakh in September 2021.
The income tax department on Wednesday said a number of technical issues on the new ITR portal are being progressively addressed and 1.19 crore ITRs for the 2020-21 fiscal year have been filed so far. Giving updates of activities carried out by taxpayers on the portal, the I-T department said over 8.83 crore unique taxpayers have logged into the portal till 7 September 2021 with a daily average of over 15.55 lakh in September.
The Income Tax Department said that the technical problems coming in the new portal have been resolved. 1.19 crore returns have been filed for the financial year 2020-21. Of these, 76.2 lakh taxpayers used the portal's online utility for filing returns.
The Income Tax Department said that 8.83 crore unique taxpayers had logged in to the portal till September 7. On average, 15.55 lakh taxpayers logged in to the portal daily in September. So far, more than 94.88 lakh ITRs have also been e-verified.
The government had launched a new income tax portal on 7 June. Since then it was facing many problems. Due to this people were facing problems in filing income tax returns. But now these problems have been removed. Infosys has made this portal for Rs 4241 crore.
Income tax return for the financial year 2020-21 is to be filed by 30 September. Earlier, July 31 was the last date for this but it has been extended to September 30.
