Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is the first woman into the Australian Open quarter-finals after steamrolling American teenager Amanda Anisimova.

The eighth seed dominated Anisimova's serve in the early match at Rod Laver Arena and smacked 18 winners to end the 17-year-old's fairytale run at Melbourne Park in less than an hour.

The 28-year-old is a now a win away from equalling her best Australian Open result, a semi-final appearance in 2012.

Kvitova broke Anisimova's serve five times – including the opening game – and never faced a break point. She got 86 percent of her first serves into play and won all but five of the points when she did.

Petra Kvitova steamrolled her younger opponent.

It will be her first quarter-final appearance in Melbourne since her run to the 2012 semi-finals and first at a grand slam since the 2017 US Open.

World No.87 Anisimova knocked off 11th seed Aryna Sabalenka on an eye-catching run to the last 16, becoming the youngest player to make that stage of the Australian Open in 13 years.

She beat Kvitova in the second round of Indian Wells last year and loomed as a threat to the Czech.

"It is always pressured out there when you are favourite for the match," Kvitova said after extending her 2019 winning streak to nine matches.

"You never know how the young players are playing and they are here, nothing to lose, they are playing really fearless.

"I started pretty well and the nerves went a little bit out for me," she added. "I'm really enjoying the time on the court, and playing tennis."

Kvitova will meet Ashleigh Barty in the final eight, a rematch of last week's Sydney final that Kvitova won in three high-quality sets.
