The government has signed a peace deal with the National Democratic Federation of Bodoland (NDFB), seeking a separate Bodoland in Assam. All groups of NDFB had decided to leave the path of violence. Representatives of these organizations signed the agreement in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonewal.

During this, Home Minister Amit Shah said that today the Center, Assam Government and Bodo representatives have signed an important agreement. This agreement will ensure a golden future for Assam and for the Bodo people. He said that 1550 cadres with 130 arms would surrender on 30 January. As Home Minister, I want to assure all the delegates that all the promises will be fulfilled in a time bound manner.
