Coronavirus cases in Pakistan have reached close to one lakh, while the death toll has crossed two thousand. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has categorically refused to implement strict restrictions in the country. Imran said that this decision will affect the economy and increase poverty.
According to data from the National Health Service Ministry, 4,960 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours, after which the total cases of infection have increased to 98,934. At the same time, the number of people who died due to coronavirus has reached to 2,002 with 67 new deaths in the last 24 hours. The ministry said that 33,465 people have recovered so far. There are 37,090 cases in Pakistan's Punjab province, 36,364 in Sindh, 13,001 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6,221 in Balochistan, 4,979 in Islamabad, 927 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 361 cases in PoK.
According to the sources, the PM said that there is a need to be aware of the severity of the epidemic. He advocated smart lockdown with standard operating procedures rather than re-enforcing strict restrictions. In this case, Imran tweeted, "Some of the elite people want lockdowns, which have big houses. The income of these people is not affected by the lockdown, but it has a direct impact on the poor."
