India has targeted Pakistan at the United Nations, saying it has fomented a “culture of violence” at home and across its borders and its “deplorable” human rights records and discriminatory treatment of religious minorities is a cause of “persistent concern” for the global community.
Paulomi Tripathi, Counselor of India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, was addressing an event on ‘Culture of Peace’ at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday. She said, “Unfortunately, we have witnessed another attempt by the delegation of Pakistan to exploit a UN platform for hate speech against India. This happens at a time when Pakistan continues to foment a culture of violence at home and across its borders.”
India strongly condemned the remarks made by Pakistan’s UN Ambassador:
India strongly condemned the remarks made by Pakistan Ambassador to the United Nations Munir Akram regarding Jammu and Kashmir, the Babri Masjid demolition and the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Tripathi said, “Pakistan’s deplorable human rights records and discriminatory treatment of religious and ethnic minorities is a cause of persistent concern for the international community.”
Blasphemy laws are used against religious minorities such as Hindus, Christians and Sikhs, to violate their human rights and dignity. ”
Condition of women and girls in Pakistan is particularly bad: Tripathi
She said that the condition of women and girls in Pakistan is particularly bad because they are abducted, raped, forcibly converted and married to their rapists. Tripathi said that the situation has become worse due to global epidemic.
She further said, ’Talk of ‘culture of peace’ from the delegation of Pakistan is nothing but a decoy to divert attention from their own shameful records.
Before making absurd allegations against India, where equal rights of people of all faiths are guarantee by the constitution, the delegation of Pakistan must do itself a favour of looking at their own system and records of protecting minorities.’
