Odisha Government Extended the Lockdown to 30th April

The Odisha government on Thursday extended the lockdown to 30 April to prevent the spread of coronavirus.  Odisha has become the first state to extend the Lockdown. In view of the increasing proliferation of covid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown by April 14, the Odisha cabinet has recommended the central government to pursue this lockdown.

The Modi government at the Center considers it necessary to strictly follow the lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.  In such a situation, the government may decide to increase the lockdown amid the rising coronavirus case in the country.

In the midst of all these the question is now deepening whether the lockdown period will be extended in other states?  Meanwhile, on Wednesday, most states made their stand clear that the lockdown should be extended.  There is a possibility that the lockdown may be announced after the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Chief Ministers of several states on 11 April.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a meeting with floor leaders of all parties in Parliament through video conferencing.  After this meeting, PM Modi finally gave his point and indicated to increase the lockdown.  It is believed that this extension may be from one and a half to two weeks.  PM made it clear that the situation before and after the corona would not be the same.  This is a big crisis and the country will have to fight unitedly.

PM Modi also praised the efforts of the state governments working closely with the Center in this fight.  Significantly, the Chief Ministers of several states including Delhi, Bihar and Telangana have appealed to the Central Government to extend the lockdown period in their states.  In such a situation, now only after the meeting of the Chief Ministers to be held on April 11, a decision will be taken whether to increase the lockdown in the rest of the states.
