It has been said in the advisory that due to the situation caused by the corona virus, there is no need to complete the formalities of Oath Ceremony.

The Oath Ceremony of candidates elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha has been postponed. This is due to the nationwide lock down caused by the corona virus. Advisory has been issued on behalf of the office of Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.

It has been said in the advisory that due to the situation caused by the corona virus, there is no need to complete the formalities of Oath Ceremony. There is no time limit for swearing oath under Article (99) of the Constitution and Rule 5 of the Proceedings of the Rajsabha. However, the person elected to the Rajya Sabha before swearing in will not be eligible to participate and vote in the proceedings of the House and be part of the Parliamentary Committees.

Significantly, 55 members are to be elected for the Rajya Sabha. Of these, 37 members have been elected unopposed. The election of 18 members was scheduled on 26 March which has been postponed due to Corona.
