Number of People Infected with Coronavirus in Kerala crosses 1100 figure, 8 Deaths reported so far

On Friday, 62 new cases of infected with the coronavirus were reported in Kerala, these include one health worker, 2 crew members of Air India Express and 2 prisoners. Whereas, with 62 new cases coming up, the total number of people infected with the virus in the state has increased to 1,150. A person returned from the Gulf country died of infection leading to death toll in the state to 8, now the number of such people is 577 who are currently being treated while 1.24 lakh people are under surveillance.

A 65 year old man from Pathanamthitta district of the state died in Kottayam Medical College Hospital on Friday morning, the man returned from the Gulf country on 11 May. CM Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala said that 33 of the infected persons had returned from different countries while 23 had returned from other states. These states include Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra (10–10), Karnataka, Delhi and Punjab (one from each), at the same time, a person got infected by coming in contact. 14 people have been found infected in Palakkad, 7 in Kannur, 6–6 in Thrissur and Pathanamthitta, 5–5 in Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram, 4–4 in Kasaragod and Ernakulam.

Vijayan said that 10 people were discharged from hospitals after recovering on Friday, whereas the government said that 12,191 separate beds are ready in government hospitals. It should be noted that Vijayan dismissed the possibility of community spread of the infection. He said that his government feared that cases of Covid-19 would increase in the state following the relaxation of lockdown restrictions, but there was no concern about community dissemination.
