Giving relief to the airlines, the government has increased the passenger capacity from 72.5% to 85%. Apart from this, the aviation ministry has also changed the rules related to fares. Now the minimum and maximum limit of airfares will be applicable only for 15 days a month. This will be applicable for 15 days at any time of the month and airlines will be able to charge fares without any limit from the 16th day.
In a new order issued on Saturday, the ministry said, "Suppose today the date is September 20, then the fare limit will be applicable till October 4. Thus, for travel on October 5 or any date after that, bookings made on September 20 will not be governed by the fare limit.
Last year, after the nationwide lockdown, in May, the government had fixed a ceiling on airfares. This was done because less number of flights were operating then. Due to this companies were charging more money for tickets. Under this, the lower and upper limits of 15 days will be fixed.
The flight capacity of domestic airlines has been increased from 72.5% to 85%. Earlier on August 12, the passenger capacity of domestic airlines was reduced from 65 to 72.5%.
The number of air passengers in the country increased by 36% in the first week of August as compared to the last week of July. Apart from this, the number of passengers has more than doubled in August 2021 as compared to August 2020.
