Now Smart Contact Lenses Will Identify Diabetes

It is now very easy to identify diabetes. Researchers have developed a smart contact lens in Heal itself that can not only identify diabetes but also treat diabetic retinopathy (eye disease caused by diabetes). The instrument has been mentioned in research published in the journal Nature review material.

This smart contact lens not only measures the blood sugar level of the patient but can also treat the disease caused by diabetes in the eyes. Diabetes patients have to check the blood before and after eating to find the blood glucose level. By applying this device in the eyes, they will not have to remove blood samples. This smart contact lens also has smart light emitting diodes that help in the treatment of retinopathy. These LEDs and photo detectors detect the level of sugar from the blood and tears present in the blood vessels of the eyes.

Researchers applied smart contact lenses to rabbit eyes. This rabbit had a problem of diabetic retinopathy. A month later, when the eyes of these rabbits were examined, a decrease in the problem of diabetic retinopathy was observed.

Researcher Professor Xi Kwang Han and his team are getting much appreciation for developing this smart contact lens. This is the first lens of its kind that detects blood sugar levels by tears and delivers treatment to the right place to cure retinopathy.

Now this contact lens will be used on humans. Clinical trials are expected to begin in the middle of this year. Along with this, researchers have also created a smart wearable device that detects blood sugar level only through sweat. It has been found successful after clinical trials.

Professor Han said, we have created a smart LED contact lens that can identify diabetes and treat diabetic retinopathy.
