No Compromise on Trial Process of COVID-19 Vaccine: Principal Scientific Adviser

Central government's Principal Scientific Adviser Vijay Raghavan said on Friday that there would be no compromise with the Corona vaccine's rigorous trial process. Addressing the webinar at the Vivekananda International Foundation, Vijay Raghavan said that the first phase of any vaccine test normally takes 28 days. Then there are two stages of the investigation. The Drug Controller of India has allowed trials of two vaccine candidates, Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech.

Vaccine will have to go through a rigorous trial process: Raghavan

Raghavan said that Bharat Biotech or Zydus Cadila vaccine will have to go through a rigorous trial process, with no compromise of any kind. In order to launch the vaccine in the country by August 15, the ICMR had written a letter to the institutions selected for this and asked to speed up the investigation process. Let us tell you that ICMR is developing a vaccine called Covaxin in association with Bharat Biotech.

Experts questioned the ICMR's claim of developing the vaccine by 15 August:

Vijay Raghavan said, "Today is 10th of the July and let's say the phase 1 trial starts today. And they start at all the 12 sites simultaneously… (which is) unlikely."  He further said, "Let us assume that they start together. While Phase 1 trial involves an injection, then another injection after seven days and then an examination after 14 days and then looking at the results of that before deciding, so after 28 days"

The first stage is followed by a two-stage trial process. If we look at the international level, the three-phase trial takes several months. Many experts around the world are questioning the ICMR's claim of developing the vaccine by 15 August. After this, the ICMR had clarified that it was said to speed up the trial process.
