India has won its first medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the women's 49 kg weight category by lifting 84kg and 87kg successfully. HOU Zhihu of China won the gold medal by lifting 210 kg. Indonesia's Windy Cantika Aisah won the bronze.
On the other hand, Indian shooter Saurabh Chaudhary has reached the final of the 10m air pistol event. Saurabh finished first in the qualifying round of the 6th series scoring 586 out of 600 points. In this event, another Indian shooter Abhishek was eliminated in the qualifying round. He finished 17th with 575 points. The top-8 ranked shooter in qualifying gets a place in the final.
In men's hockey, India made a great start by defeating New Zealand 3-2. At the same time, the pair of Deepika Kumari and Praveen Jadhav lost in the quarterfinals of the Archery Mixed Event. In women's 10m air rifle event in shooting, Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela of India could not qualify for the final. India's Sushila Devi had to face defeat in Judo.
In men's hockey, India defeated New Zealand 3-2 in Pool A of the men's section. For India, Harmanpreet Singh (26th and 33rd minute) scored two goals and Rupinder Pal Singh (10th minute) scored one goal. For New Zealand, Ken Russell scored the first goal in the sixth minute and Stephen Jaynes (43rd minute) scored the second goal. This was the 8th encounter between India and New Zealand at the Olympic Games. In this, the Indian team has won for the fifth time.
