Toshikazu Yamanishi, of Japan, contends to win the men's 20km race walk at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Yamanishi – whose comrade Yusuke Suzuki turned into the main Japanese male athlete to win the 50km walk last Sunday-had the world-leading time this year coming into the event. Nonetheless, a sign of the durability of the conditions saw him finish 10 minutes off that time.

Yamanishi's triumph guaranteed Japan turned into the first nation to win the two men's titles since Spain in 1993. Yamanishi got back home 15 seconds clear of Vasily Mizinov, contending as an Authorized Neutral Athlete because of the IAAF's prohibition on Russia on account of the doping scandal.

Perseus Karlstrom verified Sweden's first medal of the titles, taking bronze in a period of 1 hour and 27 minutes.
