Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Mahanagar Palika (BMC), Iqbal Singh Chahal has said that by the end of this week, Remedesivir medicine will be available for the patients of Corona. This statement of BMC Commissioner is as a relief for the hospitals who are facing difficulties due to lack of availability of this medicine.

Raw material for the production of this drug comes from China

Due to the ongoing tension between India and China, there is a problem in the availability of Remdesivir. The important raw material for the production of this drug comes from China, which was stuck at Mumbai airport due to lack of clearance, however, it was approved after the intervention of Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.

Iqbal Singh Chahal wrote a letter to the Prime Minister's Office on this. Remedesvir's raw material was stuck at the Mumbai airport for almost four days, waiting for custom clearance. Mumbai-based Cipla Ltd received approval from the Drug Controller of India on 21 June to supply Remedesvir to India. The ongoing tension between India and China on LAC has also affected the availability of this medicine.

Let us tell you that Remedesivir is an essential medicine that is given to those corona patients who are on oxygen support and China is the major supplier of such bulk drugs. About 68% of India's needs are met by China's imports and the important raw material for the production of Ramdeivir also comes from China. Iqbal Singh Chahal said that the raw material was stuck at Mumbai airport for the last 4 days and was released on Wednesday evening. According to sources, Chahal had written a letter to the Prime Minister's Office demanding that the raw material used in the production of this drug should be exempted from manual examination.
