On Monday, Two former world number one tennis players Serena Williams and Carolina Wozniacki teamed to win a first round match at the ASB Classic in Auckland. 23-time Grand Slam champions Serena and Carolina defeated Nao Hibino and Mikoto Ninomiya of Japan 6–2, 6–4 in the first round of the ASB Classic tournament. The match was historic and brilliant. Together they have won 24 Grand Slam and 102 WTA singles titles. Serena has also won 23 doubles titles, including 13 Grand Slams. Apart from this, she along with her elder sister Venus has also won three Olympic gold medals.

Serena had played doubles after 2015 with none other than Venus. At the same time, in the WTA tournament, for the first time since 2002, she went into a doubles match with no other player except Venus. This was Wozniacki's first doubles match in the last three years.

It is also notable that Wozniacki became the first player in the world to pair in duets with both William sisters. Wozniacki had previously played doubles with Venus in 2008 and both won titles.  Wozniacki and Serena had a strong desire to pair in doubles and their wish was fulfilled on Monday. They are also very good friends.
