Rajnath Singh Arrives in Tashkent to Attend SCO Meeting

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) meeting. On reaching Tashkent, Rajnath Singh said that India has an old tradition of moving forward on the path of development and cooperation with other countries. He tweeted that he was in Tashkent to attend the SCO meeting. In order to fulfill the developmental aspirations of the countrymen, India has an old tradition of moving forward on the path of development and cooperation with other countries.

This will be the third summit after India becomes a member of the SCO. In 2017, this meeting was held in Sochi, Russia and in 2018 this summit was held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part. Apart from attending the meeting, Rajnath Singh will also hold bilateral meetings with the Uzbek leadership. Discussion among the leaders at the SCO summit is likely to focus on multilateral economic cooperation and economic development.

Before leaving for Tashkent, the Defense Minister said here that he would hold bilateral discussions on various issues with the leadership of Uzbekistan. He had said that he is keen to discuss the issues of defense cooperation with Major General K Nizamovich, Defense Minister of Uzbekistan. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India is involved in various SCO Cooperation activities / dialogue mechanisms in the region. We are also striving to further develop multilateral Cooperation.

The ministry said that the leaders attending the meeting in Tashkent are likely to focus on discussions on multilateral economic cooperation and development in the SCO region. Singh will also participate in bilateral meetings apart from the SCO meeting. The SCO aims to maintain peace, stability and security in the region.
