Several players withdraw from French Open 2021:

Many players including World No. 1 female tennis player Ashleigh Barty, Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka and veteran Roger Federer decided to pull out of the tournament midway. Barty retired injured midway through the second set of the French Open 2021 against Poland's Magda Linette on June 2.  She left the court for medical treatment after losing the first set 6-1. She was also struggling with a hip injury during the first-round match.

On the other hand, Osaka on June 1 announced her decision to withdraw from the ongoing French Open 2021. She took this decision after facing backlash from all quarters for boycotting the media at Roland Garros. Osaka did not attend the press conference after winning the first round of the French Open on Sunday, as promised, after which she was fined $ 15,000 (more than Rs 10 lakh).
