Omicron variant has been present in Africa for two months

This is important because the African Medical Association says the Omicron variant has been present in Africa for two months. Since then it has changed its form 45 times. Only 4,200 patients are being received daily in 54 countries of Africa, which has 17% of the world's population, which is 86 times less than Europe. Daily deaths in Africa are also less than 150. Compared to Europe, this figure is 26 times less. It is a matter of confidence that both daily cases and deaths in Africa have been decreasing continuously for two months. On the other hand, in 45 countries of Europe with 10% of the world's population, 3.63 lakh patients are being found daily. More than 3,880 deaths are taking place every day.

Prime Minister's emergency meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an emergency meeting on Saturday amid apprehensions about Omicron. He asked for monitoring of international flights as well as preparing special surveillance systems for people coming from 'at risk' countries. Also asked to review the announcement of lifting the ban on international flights.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said – Samples of every passenger coming from Africa are being taken. If positive, there will be genome sequencing. The passenger will be quarantined. Every passenger coming to Karnataka will have to stay at home for 7 days. After that, there will be a test. They will be able to leave the house only if the report comes negative. If the report comes positive, then they will be kept at the airport or someplace nearby.
