Pharma Company Making Dolo-650: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has accused the Dolo-650 drug maker of giving gifts of about Rs 1,000 crore to doctors and medical professionals in return for promoting its product.

The Income Tax Department has made this claim after raiding more than 36 outlets in nine states of Bengaluru-based Micro Labs Limited on July 6.

It is noteworthy that during the first, second and third wave of Covid, the demand for this medicine suddenly increased across the country.

The company also claimed that during Covid, the company had produced about 60 million tablets of Dolo-650.

Gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 1.40 crore seized

The CBDT on Wednesday said that after taking action against the pharmaceutical company, the department has seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 1.20 crore and gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 1.40 crore.

If sources are to be believed, such gifts are often given to doctors by pharmaceutical companies, so that they can write more and more medicines of that particular company to the patients, so that the demand and production of the medicine can increase.

However, the company has not yet responded to the e-mail sent to Micro Labs in this regard.

The CBDT said that a lot of incriminating evidence in the form of documents and digital data has been found during the search operation, and they have been confiscated.

According to the board, “The evidence indicates that the group has adopted unethical business methods to promote its product/brand.

Around Rs 1,000 crore is thought to be the total sum of such gifts."
