Supertech Twin Towers Noida Authority has said in the Supreme Court on Monday that the demolition work of the twin tower has started and by May 22, both the towers will be completely demolished. The Supreme Court has asked the Noida Authority and Supertech to abide by the deadlines mentioned in the affidavit of the Noida Authority. The court has asked the Noida Authority to submit the updated status report on May 17.
The next hearing in this case will now be held on May 17. A bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Surya Kant was also informed that the entire debris would be removed from the site by M/s Edifice by August 22. Noida Authority's senior advocate Ravindra Kumar told the Supreme Court that as per the court's order dated February 7, a meeting of all stakeholders was held on February 9 where it was decided that by February 20, M/s Edifice would mobilize labour, materials and machines at the site. Also, Noida will start and complete all the activities as per the approved plan by the authority.
It was told in the court that on or before May 22, the Twin Towers will be demolished. Dates can be changed only in case of unforeseen events. However, this would be done after obtaining prior approval of the court; the Supreme Court was further informed. It was said that the orders of the Supreme Court are being followed and photographs related to the work have been attached with the status report.
In its order, the bench said that the court has been apprised of the fact that sabotage has started at the site concerned. All concerned stakeholders including Noida Authority and Supertech as well as other officials shall strictly adhere to the timetable indicated in the status report for timely completion of work. At the same time, the Supreme Court has listed the matter for hearing on May 17, seeking an updated status report from the Noida Authority. The court had on February 7 asked the CEO of Noida Authority to take necessary steps to start the demolition work of Supertech's Twin Towers in Noida within two weeks.
On October 4 last year, the country's top court had dismissed the petition of Supertech Ltd. The court had refused to amend its earlier direction to demolish the buildings as they did not meet the safety standards. The Supreme Court, in its judgment dated August 31, 2021, had directed the flat buyers to return their full amount along with demolishing the illegal buildings.
