Concession for Senior Citizens in Railways: The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has been consistently directing his criticisms towards the central government.
Recently, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to reinstate concessions for elderly individuals in railways.
Kejriwal expressed his disappointment at the discontinuation of these concessions and emphasized that the country cannot progress without the blessings and support of its elderly citizens.
The Delhi CM's letter to the Prime Minister requested that this concession be restored once again
The central government discontinued the concessions for senior citizens in rail travel in 2020 as a measure to limit the spread of COVID-19.
In a recent statement, CM Kejriwal highlighted that for several years, elderly individuals across the country have been benefiting from up to a 50 per cent concesson on rail travel.
However, he expressed disappointment at the central government's decision to abolish this concession.
In a recent Lok Sabha session, the central government claimed that discontinuing this concession for the elderly had resulted in an annual savings of Rs 1600 crore.
Kejriwal argued that the cost of extending concessions for senior citizens in rail travel is a relatively small amount when compared to the central government's budget of Rs 45 lakh crore.
However, Kejriwal also emphasized that progress in life is not solely the result of hard work but also the blessings and support of elders. He went on to stress that without the blessings of elders, no individual, society, or country can make significant progress.
CM Kejriwal stated that he has spoken to numerous elders who have expressed how much the small concession in rail travel means to them. He requested the central government to show sensitivity towards the elderly and restore this concession as soon as possible.
