Curfew in Bhaderwah: Curfew has been imposed in the area and internet services suspended following attempts to spread communal tension in Bhaderwah town of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening.
The district administration says that as a precautionary measure, curfew was later imposed in Kishtwar district as well and mobile internet service has been stopped.
It is said that a local cleric allegedly made a provocative speech and talked about beheading Nupur Sharma.
After that the situation deteriorated here. Also, an objectionable post about Prophet Muhammad on social mediao added to the tension.
Police say that curfew has been imposed to keep the situation under control. The situation in the area is normal and under control.
Police have said that if any person violates law and order, strict action will be taken against him. On these incidents, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he is hopeful that peace will prevail in the state.
Jammu and Kashmir already has a lot of problems, now it should not be scorched in the flames of communal tension. Abdullah has appealed to the people to maintain peace.
At the same time, Udhampur MP and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has expressed regret over this incident. Singh has appealed to the people of both communities to sit together and restore the traditional beauty of Bhaderwah town.
In one of his tweets, the Union Minister said that he was deeply hurt by what happened in Bhaderwah on Thursday. In another tweet, Singh said that he is in touch with Doda DC and Divisional Commissioner. The district administration is monitoring the situation.
