
COVID-19 Update: On Sunday (April 23), India saw a decline in Covid cases with 10,112 new infections reported in the past 24 hours, as opposed to 12,193 cases recorded on Saturday i.e. April 22.
The decline in Covid cases arrives after the Centre urged eight states, including Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, to be vigilant and take proactive measures in identified hotspots to prevent any potential surge in infections.
However, as per the Union health ministry's update on Sunday, the number of active cases increased to 67,806.
India's Covid-19 tally has reached 4.48 crore (4,48,91,989) with the addition of 10,112 new cases. The death toll increased to 5,31,329, including 29 fatalities, with Kerala reconciling seven deaths.
As per the health ministry website, the daily positivity rate was noted at 7.03%, while the weekly positivity rate was registered at 5.43%.
The active cases currently account for 0.15% of the overall infections, and the national Covid-19 recovery rate was measured at 98.66%.
The count of Covid-19 recoveries has surged to 4,42,92,854, with a case fatality rate of 1.18%.
As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, 220.66 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to date.
