Operation Kaveri: Sudan, an African country, is currently facing a civil war that has resulted in the deaths of over 400 people due to ongoing conflict between the army and paramilitary forces.
Numerous individuals from various countries, including India, are currently stranded within the region. Meanwhile, India has initiated "Operation Kaveri" with the goal of evacuating Indian citizens from Sudan and bringing them back to their home country.
External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar, shared on Twitter that "Operation Kaveri" is currently in progress to repatriate Indian citizens who are stranded in Sudan.
Approximately 500 individuals have already arrived at Port Sudan, with more expected to follow. The Minister emphasized that India is fully prepared to assist in the safe return of its citizens, stating that "Our ships and aircraft will take them home".
He further reiterated India's commitment to aiding their fellow countrymen and women in Sudan.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, two C-130 aircraft from the Indian Air Force and INS Sumedha from the Navy have arrived in Saudi Arabia and Sudan respectively.
Their mission is to aid in the evacuation of Indian citizens who are stranded due to the ongoing civil war in Sudan. The Air Force planes are stationed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, while INS Sumedha has docked at a port in Sudan.
In addition to India, several other nations have launched rescue missions to safely evacuate their citizens who are currently trapped in Sudan.
As of now, nine countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, have successfully evacuated their diplomats from the conflict-stricken region.
Amidst the ongoing civil war in Sudan, Albert Augustine, an Indian national and employee of the Dal Group Company in the country, was tragically killed on April 16th due to bullet injuries.
The Indian mission in Sudan confirmed this news via Twitter. In light of the precarious situation, the Government of India has issued an advisory for all its citizens residing in Sudan to exercise caution and remain vigilant.
