Previous National icons signes by ECI

The election commission has partnered with renowned Indians from diverse fields. It designates them as national icons to leverage their popularity in promoting voter turnout for the elections in the country.

In the 2019, Lok Sabha polls, the commission designated stalwarts such as MS Dhoni, Mary Kom, and Aamir Khan as national icons, while last year the ECI signed an MoU with Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi to popularise the importance of elections in a healthy democracy.

Sachin's performance as a Rajya Sabha member

While Sachin has multiple cricket records to his name, his performance as a Rajya Sabha nominated member from 2012 to 2018 has been criticized by many. He had a low attendance rate, showing up for only 8% of the days during his term.

During his six-year service, he did not engage in any legislative debates and only asked 22 questions. However, he did use his MPLADS funds well for multiple generous causes ranging from relief to adopting a village.
