Subsequently, a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases has been observed in the state. Following the detection of this new variant, fear has resurfaced among the public.

In light of these developments, Dr. Rahul Pandit, a former member of the Maharashtra Task Force and associated with the Reliance Foundation Hospital, has shared crucial information related to the JN.1 variant.

Symptoms are Similar to Old Virus

Dr. Rahul Pandit has informed that the JN.1 variant did not suddenly emerge. In fact, infections with this variant have been occurring internationally since August.

Dr. Rahul Pandit has stated that people in India have received two doses of the vaccine along with booster shots. In this scenario, whether the virus will break through this immunity or not will be determined through testing.

It remains to be seen if any modifications need to be made to the existing vaccine.

He mentioned that more information will be obtained through genomic sequencing.

Guidelines for Protection

Dr. Rahul Pandit has emphasized the importance of wearing masks and washing hands to protect oneself from this virus. It is important to follow the old Covid protocols.

He mentioned that currently, with the onset of the cold season, diseases like flu and other infections are on the rise. Therefore, if symptoms appear, a test should be conducted on the advice of a doctor.

He further explained that the virus is not currently considered highly dangerous, although individuals with pre-existing serious illnesses should be cautious.
