Gyanvapi Case: The Supreme Court today i.e. November 11 will hear a plea seeking enhancement of security at the part of Varanasi's Gyanvapi mosque complex where a Shivling was found.

With the interim order of protection expiring on November 12, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain on Thursday requested Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud to grant an urgent date for hearing his application for continuation of the earlier order.

The matter is to be heard in the Supreme Court as well as Allahabad High Court and District Court Varanasi.

Gyanvapi Case: What is the whole matter

Vishnu Shankar Jain, an advocate of the Hindu side, had filed a suit before the Varanasi Civil Court for permission to worship at the Gyanvapi Masjid.

He says that on May 17, the top court had ordered to protect the area where the Shivling was found. The civil court allowed the video graphic survey of the mosque complex adjoining the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

He said the May 17 order to secure the area was in force for eight weeks after the disposal of an application filed by the Gyanvapi Masjid Management Committee before the civil court.

In this application of the Masjid Management Committee, the case of Hindu women was sought to be dismissed on the ground of maintenance and violation of the Place of Worship Act, 1991.

However, the civil court rejected the petition of the Masjid Management Committee on 12 September and decided to proceed with the suit.

The eight-week period fixed by the top court started after that. On Thursday, Jain submitted before the CJI that the area needed to be protected, and would require another order extending the court's previous direction.

Justice Chandrachud agreed to constitute the bench today i.e. on Friday at 3 pm.
