Cough Syrups by Maiden Pharma Case: Taking a big step, the Haryana government has banned the production of cough syrups by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited.

Let us tell you, after the death of 66 children in the Gambia, a medical alert was issued by the World Health Organization against four cough syrups of Maidan Pharmaceuticals.

The WHO had said that contaminated and low-quality cough syrups from Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd could be responsible for the deaths of children in The Gambia. After which the Haryana government took this step.

Health Minister gave this information

Giving information about the ban on the production of syrup, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that the state government has banned the production of cough syrup.

Vij said that after the medical alert was issued by the WHO, the government had sent samples of all four cough syrups of the Maiden pharmaceutical company to Kolkata for examination. He said that the report has not come yet.

Haryana Drug Controller has also issued a show cause notice to the company

According to news agency ANI, the production of cough syrup by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited was jointly inspected by the Centre and the pharmaceutical departments of Haryana State.

12 flaws were also found in its manufacturing plant, after which the Haryana government decided to stop the production of syrup.

At the same time, Haryana Drug Controller has also issued a show cause notice to the company regarding the matter.

It has also been asked that the company should give reasons as to why the production of syrup should not be stopped.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the effect of those contaminated drugs identified in The Gambia has been shown only in The Gambia so far.

These medicines are cough syrups produced in India. WHO has expressed apprehensions that this drug may have been supplied to other countries as well.
