Farmers Protest: During the ongoing protests demanding legislation on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers, a protesting farmer died at the Shambhu border.
Officials stated that Gyan Singh, a 63-year-old farmer participating in the protest against the farm laws near Ambala in Haryana, suffered a heart attack which led to his demise.
According to the report, Gyan Singh complained of chest pain in the morning, following which he was taken to the Civil Hospital in Rajpura, Punjab. Officials mentioned that he was then transferred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Gyan Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, had arrived at the Shambhu border two days ago to participate in the 'Delhi Chalo' march of the farmers.
The main objective of this agitation is to secure legal guarantees, including Minimum Support Price (MSP), among other demands. Farmer organizations are exerting pressure on the government, but despite several rounds of discussions, no solution has been reached.
The Joint Farmers Front (non-political) and the Farmers Labor Front had called for the 'Delhi Chalo' march. The farmers initiated the march on Tuesday and have since been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Punjab and Haryana.
Talks between farmer union leaders and the government during the third round on Thursday remained inconclusive. The next round of talks will now take place on Sunday.
Due to the farmers' protest, a severe traffic jam has occurred in the capital city of Delhi. The United Farmers Front and the Farmers Labor Front have called for a nationwide strike today (February 16). As a result, there is heavy checking at the borders.
