Renowned Urdu poet and writer Munawwar Rana (70) was hospitalized in Apollo Hospital, Lucknow during the early hours of Thursday as his health took a turn for the worse, as revealed by his daughter in a video statement.
In the video released around 3:30 am on Thursday, Sumaiya Rana shared that her father's condition is critical and has been placed on a ventilator.
She expressed concern over Munawwar Rana's deteriorating health in the past two-three days.
According to Sumaiya Rana, her father experienced a severe stomach ache while undergoing dialysis, leading the doctors to perform a CT scan.
The scan revealed an issue with Munawwar Rana's gall bladder, which subsequently required surgery. Sumaiya mentioned that her father's treatment is currently ongoing, with doctors closely monitoring his condition to minimize the infection.
Sumaiya Rana further shared that the medical professionals have stated that the next 72 hours hold immense significance in Munawwar Rana's condition, emphasizing the criticality of this period.
Munawwar Rana, a highly regarded Urdu poet in India, is widely acclaimed for his numerous ghazals. In a notable decision, he declined the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu Literature, which he was bestowed in 2014.
Rana took a principled stand by refusing to accept any future government awards, citing the growing intolerance prevailing in the country.
In addition to his contributions to Urdu poetry, Munawwar Rana actively engages in political affairs in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, his daughter, Sumaiya, is a member of the Samajwadi Party, further reflecting their family's involvement in political developments.
