The operation began on September 12th, with security forces launching an attack on the terrorists hiding in the mountains and caves of Kokernag.

The next day, Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and Jammu and Kashmir Police DSP Humayun Bhat were martyred during the encounter.

Following this, the terrorists fled the area. The operation was carried out to locate these terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Uzair Khan. Uzair Khan's body has now been recovered from the area where they were hiding, the village of Gairoli in Kokernag.

The security forces had conducted drone and rocket launcher attacks on the terrorists hidden in the Peer Panjal mountains, after which the terrorists had temporarily ceased firing.

Subsequently, the burnt body of one of the terrorists was recovered the next day. However, gunfire resumed shortly after, leading to the elimination of all three terrorists hiding in the mountains and caves.

Anantnag Encounter: Challenging Operation for the Security Forces

This operation took place in the challenging terrain of the Peer Panjal mountains, extending approximately 170 kilometres from Muzaffarabad to Kishtwar.

Such a vast and rugged area made it difficult to locate and apprehend 2-3 terrorists. The mountains, with their high altitudes of 75-80 degrees, provided a secure hiding place for the terrorists.

When terrorists are on these heights, they can easily observe the activities of the Indian Army, making it easier for them to launch attacks. Hence, this was a challenging operation for the security forces.
