Education Day is being celebrated across the country on 11 November. Every year National Education Day is Celebrated in the memory of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the country's First education minister, Freedom fighter, Scholar and eminent educationist. On the occasion of Education Day, India remembers the work done by Kalam in the field of education. Maulana Azad believed that schools are pro-labs where prospective citizens are produced.
According to historians, Maulana Azad laid the foundation for higher education, Technical and scientific research and education which was instrumental in the industrialization and emergence of present day knowledge based industries. Kalam was clear about the primary objective of education, in his address during the first meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education, that the first objective of any system should be to create a balanced mind that cannot be misled.
From 1947 to 1958 Abul Kalam served as the Education Minister of independent India. He believed that children should be educated in the mother tongue. Kalam not only emphasized the education of women but also advocated free education to all children till the age of 14 years. Apart from this, he also got everyone's attention towards vocational training and technical education along with primary education.
