The Central Government today launched the E-Shram Portal to make the benefits of its social security schemes directly accessible to the workers of the unorganized sector. Union Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Minister of State for Labor Rameshwar Teli were present on the occasion.

On the occasion of the launch, Minister of State for Labor Rameshwar Teli said that workers of the unorganized sector will be able to register themselves on this portal or through Common Service Center (CSC). If they go to the Common Service Center for this then they will not have to pay any fee.

On Tuesday, Union Labor Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the logo of the E-Shram portal. On this occasion, Yadav had said that this would be the national database of 'our nation builders, our labor yogis'. He said that the aim of the government is to make its social security schemes reach the masses. The National Database of Unorganized Sector Workers i.e. e-Shram Portal is a step in that direction.

The social security schemes of the Centre

Through the e-shram portal scheme, the government wants to create a database of 38 crore workers in the unorganized sector. Its purpose is to integrate the social security schemes of the Centre. In this database, laborers, migrant laborers, street vendors, domestic workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers, agricultural laborers, and other workers in the unorganized sector will be able to register.

Aadhar number and bank account details required for registration

The government has also released the national toll-free number 14434 along with the E-Shram portal. Workers will be able to get the necessary information for registration on the portal by calling this number. To register on the E-Shram portal, it will be necessary to provide Aadhaar number and bank account information. The workers will also have to enter the required information like date of birth, mobile number, hometown, and social category on the portal.

The details of the workers will be shared with the state governments and departments.

On registration, workers will get an E-Shram card with a unique 12-digit number. The details of workers to be given on E-Shram will be shared with the state governments and departments. EPFO says that crores of unorganized workers of the country will get a new identity with the E-Shram card. The E-Shram card will be valid across the country.
