The Palghar district of Maharashtra experienced eight earthquake tremors within four hours on Friday morning. Earthquake tremors measured from 2.2 to 3.6. Officials said earthquake tremors were felt at the Dahanu and Talasari temples in the district and no casualties have been reported so far.
8 Earthquake Tremors in 4 Hours
Vivekananda Kadam, head of the District Disaster Control Cell, said, a 3.5 magnitude earthquake occurred late Thursday night at 3.29 p.m. Subsequently, earthquakes of magnitude 3.5 and 3.6 occurred at 3.57 am and 7:00 am in the morning. Dahanu Sub-Divisional Officer Ashima Mittal said that in addition to the three earthquakes of magnitude 3.0, five other earthquakes occurred between 3 pm and 7 am Thursday.
Large Tents have been Installed in the Open Fields
Kadam said local tehsildars have been asked to inspect the villages. Mittal said that due to earthquakes, large tents have been installed in the open fields in the villages of these tehsils so that local residents can go there if they feel unsafe in the houses. After the earthquake in Dahanu and Talasari last week, the walls of many houses had collapsed and many walls had cracked.
Disaster Coordination Committees Formed
Mittal said disaster coordination committees have been formed at the village level and civil defense personnel have been asked to be ready to assist. Meanwhile, the district authorities issued an audio message asking the people living in the villages of the Dahanu area to be alert due to earthquake danger. This type of earthquake has been happening in Dahanu since November 2018. Earlier, the National Seismological Center (NCS) reported an earthquake in Palghar twice in the early hours of Friday.
People are Scared due to the Tremors
