A four-storey building in Malwani area collapsed on another building at 11.10 pm after it rained all day in Mumbai on Wednesday. 18 people were pulled from the rubble after the accident. Of these, 11 have died. The remaining 7 injured are being treated at BDBA Nagar General Hospital. Three families were living in the building at the time of the accident. Some of these children are also included.
After the incident, the team of Fire Brigade and BMC reached the spot and started relief work. Due to dense population, the road to reach the spot is narrow. In such a situation, there is a problem in the rescue. Ambulances, fire brigade and JCB also had difficulties in reaching the spot due to the narrow road.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said that three nearby buildings in a dangerous condition have also been evacuated. Zone-11 DCP Vishal Thakur said, 'Our team has been engaged in rescue since overnight. Some people may still be trapped under the debris. Shahnawaz Khan, an eyewitness said, "The fire brigade team reached immediately after our call and started the rescue operation.
Mumbai and its adjoining areas received rain for almost the entire day on Wednesday. Due to this the low-lying areas were submerged in water till their knees. The western suburb of Santa Cruz received 164.8 mm of rain in the six hours from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm on Wednesday. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of rain even today.
