Regular captain Aaron Finch may return in the second match, but Alex Carey has done the job well in the first match. Mitchell Starc took five wickets for 48 runs, while Josh Hazlewood returned with 3-1 figure.

Ashton Turner also scored 49 runs, while debutant openers Josh Philippe and Ben McDermott scored 39 runs and 28 runs respectively. At the same time, Wes Agar, the third player to play the first ODI, scored 9 runs in 6 balls. The teams will lock horns on Thursday in the second match and on Saturday for the final ODI. The West Indies won the preceding Twenty20 series 4-1.
Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard said, “I thought our bowlers did a very good job to limit Australia given that the average score batting first here is a round 260. To be brutally honest though, I felt we gave away 20-25 runs in the field. (On the batting side) I just want our guys to put up a fight. Just because the ball is swinging or moving, don’t just give it away with soft dismissals.”
