Meghalaya: 6 Members Of a Doctor’s Family Found Infected, After He Was Found Corona Positive

Health officials have so far identified around 2000 people who visited the hospital's Shillong campus after 22 March.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Konrad Sangma said that so far the only infected patient of corona virus in the state, a doctor died on Wednesday morning. He said that the infection has been confirmed in six people of the family including the doctor's wife. A member of the deceased's family said that 69-year-old doctor John L. Silo died at about three-thirty.

He was the founder of Bethany Hospital and was confirmed to have been infected with the Corona virus on Monday evening. The Chief Minister tweeted, "I am very sorry to say that the first person who was found infected with Covid-19 in Meghalaya passed away at 3.45 am. My condolences to his family and loved ones, may his soul rest in peace. "

Sangma said in another tweet, "So far, 68 (of the samples) examined have found six infected, who are family members or servants of a person infected with Covid-19 in the state." All six people have also been re-examined, none in the investigations is found to be infected. "

The Shillong campus of Bethany Hospital where doctor was admitted and the second campus at Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi district have been sealed and are being made infection free. All the people admitted in both the centers have been separated. Health officials have so far identified around 2000 people who visited the hospital's Shillong campus after 22 March.
