Massive Fire at Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh, Delhi

After a massive fire broke out in the New Delhi's Karol Bagh area, the blaze has claimed 17 lives including one child. Several other rescued guests were rushed to hospitals and are reported, in a critical state. Here are five highlights of the massive fire:

    1. The fire broke out around 4 am on Tuesday and speculations are that the fire broke out due to short circuit but the authorities are yet to confirm. More than two dozen fire engines were sent to the Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh. The area is lined-up with hotels and markets.
    1. The wooden panels in the hotel's corridors acted as a catalyst and the guests could not use the corridors to evacuate the hotel. Most of the deaths happened due to suffocation.
    1. The victims were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram hospital for treatment.
    1. The authorities have rescued more than 35 people and some people were even seen jumping from a five-story building in order to save their lives said, Virendra Singh, the deputy fire chief. Most of the victims were sleeping when the fire broke out.
  1. The vice-president of Delhi Hotel Association said all fire norms were maintained in Hotel Arpit Palace. It was due to fire in ducting because of which it spread to the hotel rooms. All norms were followed here. The license is issued only after inspection. Balan Mani said. He further added that mishappening can occur in a house as well.
