Maruti Discontinued its popular SUV Gypsy after 33 years of Production

Maruti Suzuki has closed the production of Gypsy in India. The launch of the Maruti Gypsy was done in India in 1985 and now after nearly 33 years of production, the company has finally stopped making this off-road car. Gypsy is one of Maruti Suzuki's oldest cars in India.

After Maruti 800 and Omni van, Gypsy was the third most sold car by the company in India. Now the company has issued an official statement to its dealers and informed that the production of all the variants of Gypsy has been discontinued. At the same time, the company has also told dealers to stop the booking procedure for this SUV.

The reasons for the removal of Maruti Gypsy from the company's lineup are the upcoming rules. Some new security-related rules are going to come in the months of April and October this year. Maruti Suzuki made very few changes in its 80s SUVs. The design and overlay structure of this SUV has remained the same for the last 33 years. In such a situation, the company will need to design this car again according to new safety regulations.

At the same time, the rate of production also decreased considerably. In such a situation, investing in such a car will prove to be an expensive one for the company. In this case, the company decided to completely shut down its SUV. The SUV is mostly liked by the army. The last order for this car from the army was done in 2015.

Maruti Gypsy's launch was done in a single petrol engine option. It was presented with a 1.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The choice of four-speed transmission with this engine was given. However, after upgrading it, the big 1.3-liter engine was installed. It was provided with 5-speed manual gearbox.
