Ajay Devgn's recent release 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' has been a super hit at the box office and has grossed over Rs 200 crore so far. People have liked this film a lot. Now Ajay is once again in the news and that is due to his upcoming film Maidan. A day before, the teaser poster of 'Maidan' has been released in which some football players are seen with some players wearing half pants in a mud filled ground. According to reports, Ajay Devgan will play the role of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in the film.

Syed Abdul Rahim was born on 17 August 1909 in Hyderabad. He started his career as a coach of Hyderabad City Police. After this, when his team started doing well at the national level, he was made the coach of the Indian National Football Team in 1950. Indian players used to play barefoot football during that period. It was Rahim who taught the Indian team to play football by wearing shoes and made them stand in the strongest teams of the world.

When the team reached the semifinals of the 1956 Olympics

This was the golden period of Indian football. The Indian team won the gold medal at the 1951 Asian Games. The highest peak of Rahim's success was when the Indian team reached the semi-finals at the 1956 Olympics. Although the team suffered defeat in the semi-finals, the enthusiasm of the team was worth watching. After this, the Indian team also won the gold medal in the Asian Games of 1962.

When the Jakarta Asian Games were being played in 1962, the Indian team's coach Syed Abdul Rahim was battling cancer. The final match of the Indian team was to be from South Korea's team. This team was very strong and two players of the Indian team were injured and the goalkeeper was ill. However, it was the coach's militancy that all three players went on to play the final and India won the gold medal by winning the match 2–1. Syed Abdul Rahim died of cancer in 1963, the next year after the Indian team's victory.

The film 'Maidan' is produced by Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunawa Joy Sengupta, while it is directed by 'Badhaai Ho' fame director Amit Ravindranath Sharma. Kirti Suresh was earlier in the film, according to reports, now Priya Mani Raj has replaced her. The movie will be released on 27 November 2020.
