With the pace of the storm rising in Mumbai, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed the state administration (rescue and relief) to ensure immediate relief work. The Chief Minister's Office said that Thackeray is in constant touch with the District Magistrates of the West Coast districts to get the latest information about the impact of the Nisarga. The districts of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sidhudurg have been affected by this severe cyclonic storm, whereas, the storm reached Raigad district and during that time a thunderstorm was moving from 100-110 km per hour to 102 km per hour.
The Chief Minister's Office tweeted, "The Chief Minister has directed to maintain preparedness for the (rescue and relief) campaign and to ensure immediate relief work as the cyclone moves from Mumbai and Thane towards Northern Maharashtra." The office said Thackeray is in constant contact with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and ward officials and is issuing directions to ensure that the cyclone is least damaged.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is also reviewing the situation in Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts after talking to the district magistrates. According to the statement issued from his office, he has appealed to remain alert till the storm completely subsides. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone Nisarga reached the coast of Maharashtra near Alibag in Raigad district on Wednesday. He said in a statement that the right part of this storm will pass through the coastal region of Maharashtra, especially Raigad district and it will step into Mumbai and Thane districts sequentially over the next three hours.
