The lockdown restrictions in Bihar have been extended till May 25. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself informed via Twitter. The lockdown restrictions were supposed to end on May 15.  In fact, after the lockdown was imposed in Bihar, the positive effect of the restrictions is visible. After about three weeks, daily reported cases in the state have gone down to 10,000. With this, the total number of active patients has also reduced to less than 1 lakh. The recovery rate has improved, while the rate of infection has also decreased.

The Bihar government had sought feedback from all the districts regarding the impact of the lockdown and the need for its extension. On Wednesday, DMs of all districts in the VC along with state-level officials agreed to extend the lockdown restrictions. Therefore, it has been decided to extend the lockdown in Bihar for the next 10 days i.e., from May 16 to May 25, 2021.

Over 9800 cases reported in the state:

State President of BJP, Sanjay Jaiswal, a key ally in the Nitish government, had already demanded the extension of the lockdown. The Chief Minister said on Wednesday that the situation is improving with the lockdown.

Meanwhile, Bihar's Covid-19 death toll stands at 3,503 on Wednesday after 74 people died, while 9,863 fresh positive cases pushed the tally to 6,22,433, the health department said. The state currently has 99,623 active cases. At the same time, CM Nitish Kumar had said that the government is upgrading the infrastructure in hospitals and increasing the number of beds, ventilators and other items following the surge in cases in the second wave of the pandemic.
