Lockdown in Bihar Extended till June 1: CM Nitish Kumar

In order to contain the spread of coronavirus, the lockdown restrictions in Bihar have been extended till June 1. The COVID-induced lockdown has been in force for nearly a month and was to be effective till May 25. The announcement was made by the Chief Minister on his official Twitter handle.

In a tweet in Hindi, CM Nitish Kumar wrote, "The lockdown has had a good impact and there has been a decline in the coronavirus contagion. Hence, a decision has been taken to continue with the lockdown till June 01."

Lockdown restrictions till June 1:

Lockdown in Bihar was first imposed on May 5, till May 10, after the state was rattled by an unprecedented spike in COVID 19 cases and fatalities. However, it was subsequently extended till May 25. The restrictions include banning almost all business activities. Essential shops allowed for four hours from 6 am to 10 am in the morning.

After the announcement of the extension of the lockdown, the new guidelines are now awaited after the meeting of the Disaster Management Group. It is believed that some relaxation will be considered. Over four lakh people have been infected and over 2,000 have lost their lives since April 2021.

More than 2.22 lakh cases reported in India:

India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 2,22,315 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,67,52,447. With 4,454  deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 3,03,720. The country also witnessed 3,02,544 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,37,28,011. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 88.69%.
