Lockdown Break Gave Physical Strength but could affect Rhythm, Says Mohd. Shami

The Indian team's fast bowler Mohammed Shami believes that the break due to the lockdown certainly gave rest to the tired body but the long break could have the opposite effect on his rhythm. Shami said in an interview that he is in better condition than other Indian cricketers living in the metros and has been practicing in the open courtyard of his ancestral home in Sahapur. He also has a small cricket ground inside the house.

Not playing for a long time causes the rhythm to go away: Shami

Shami said, 'You can see it in two ways. The schedule of the Indian team is always busy but due to this break, players got enough time to rest. Shami said, 'On one hand you got physical advantage and you became more fit and strong but not playing for a long time causes the rhythm to go away. This is the difference. The advantages and disadvantages depend on how you are taking care of your body.

Shami further said, 'Whenever BCCI starts the camp, I will definitely get benefit. He said, 'I will definitely benefit because I am practicing regularly. This is different from the break caused by an injury. I've been in a rhythm and don't feel any stiffness. With time, the rhythm will be achieved too.

Don't know whether the ball would swing without saliva: Shami

Shami also said that he could not guess how the red ball would react without saliva. He also said that he did not practice with the old ball on the net. He said that the old ball taken on the net remains in the box for several days and is different from the old ball of the match. The ball is old by playing continuously in the match. During practice, I will bowl with the new ball and try not to use saliva.

He said that he had no answer to the question whether the ball would swing without saliva. He said, 'People ask me this question but I have no answer. We have been using saliva for years. This is the habit. Once you bowl without saliva, then you will know.
