According to reports Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday attacked the party over its big ego and accused it of ditching partners and threatening rivals. "Like the BJP, the Congress too believes in threatening political opponents," he said.

The Samajwadi Party had an understanding with the Congress during the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. However, for the Lok Sabha elections, the SP-BSP combine has left the Congress out of its alliance.

"We had an alliance with the Congress, but found that their ego is too big," the SP president said.

The SP had an understanding with the Congress during the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. But the alliance of the SP and the Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh kept the Congress out of their combine for the Lok Sabha elections.

The alliance, which also includes the Rashtriya Lok Dal, has left Amethi and Rae Bareli constituencies for the Congress to contest.

He accused the Congress of initiating a CBI probe against his father Mulayam Singh when it was in power at the Centre. He said a Congressman was doing this even now. The reference was to activist Vishwanath Chaturvedi's attempt to revive an old case, alleging amassing of disproportionate assets by him and his father.
