World Vegan Day 2019: 7 Habits to Follow to Become Vegan

World Vegan Day 2019: The year 1944 was when the term Veganism was first coined.  And today, there are many Bollywood stars from Sonam Kapoor to Aamir Khan who are following this veganism and also inspiring many people to live a vegan lifestyle. But should you also follow thier advice? Are you ready to give up dairy products, meats, eggs, honey and many of your cosmetics. Today, World Vegan Day is being celebrated worldwide on November 1. If you too are thinking of being vegan, then definitely pay attention to these 7 things.

What is the difference between vegetarian and veganism?

Vegans love the environment more than vegetarians. Vegetarians do not eat meat and eggs, while vegan does not eat any kind of dairy products, animal products, even gelatin and honey and meat.  Not only this, Vegan does not even use soaps, clothes and beauty products in which animal products are used.

It is easier to be a vegetarian, because you can eat many animal products that are important sources of nutrients like protein, vitamins, minerals and nutritious fats. At the same time, a vegan has to give up animal products altogether and has to find other options.

What happens when you adopt veganism?

1. By becoming vegan, heart disease, arthritis and some cancers that are caused by animal fat reduces the chances of developing them. By removing animal products from their diet, vegans protect themselves from industrial chemicals and toxins that animals transfer from their environments.

2. Milk, cheese, yogurt and eggs are important sources of calcium which are important for maintaining bone health. After becoming vegan, you have many options like figs, kale, spinach, turnip leaves and black peas to complete your dose of calcium. At the same time, for milk you can also opt for soy, almond and vegan cheese. Soy, fruits and some vegetables can provide some other important minerals and nutrients such as vitamin D, vitamin K, potassium and magnesium which are also important for bones.

3. Vegan foods are made into healthy plant-based fats and oils such as olives. These also provide important fatty acids and also control lipoprotein levels, reducing the risk of heart diseases.

4. B-12 is found mostly in meat, eggs and dairy products. If you are on vegan diet, you can get B-12 either by eating or from supplements. Similarly, you may need to take iron supplements because the iron found in non-vegetarian food is easier to digest than the iron found in vegetables.

5. Vegan diet can reduce your high calorie intake and increase your intake of high fiber foods. The result is that you lose some weight. However, make sure that your body receives the necessary nutrition.

6. Vegan diet is not only good for health but also for the environment. From standing up against animal cruelty to helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a vegan diet is best for everyone.

7. If you and your partner or parents want to try vegan diet then it is fine, but for your children, it may not be the right option. Children need a variety of vitamins and minerals for their brains, bones, and health, which may not meet the vegan diet.
