International Olympic Day 2022: Worldwide, June 23 is observed as International Olympic Day. Olympic Day is a great celebration of sport, health and solidarity. At the same time, it invites everyone to make the whole world functional and move forward with a purpose.
All the participants from all over the world remember this day, the day on which the International Olympic Committee was established at the Sorbonne in Paris. On 23 June 1894, Pierre de Coubertin rallied to rejuvenate the ancient Olympic Games.
Czech IOC member Dr. Grasse presented the idea of celebrating World Olympic Day at the 41st session of the International Olympic Committee in Stockholm, Sweden, inviting a day to celebrate everything related to the Olympic campaign.
The idea was adopted at the 42nd IOC Session in St. Moritz, Switzerland, a few months later, in January 1948. The National Olympic Committees were put in charge of the event. Also, this date became a memorable moment in the history of the Olympic campaign.
For some time now, the International Olympic Committee has also been supporting refugee athletes through the IOC Refugee Athlete Scholarship and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team.
The theme of Olympic Day in 2022 is "Together, for a Peaceful World". The goal of International Olympics Day in 2022 will be to promote world peace through sport and competition.
The first Olympic Day in the world was celebrated on 23 June 1948. On the occasion IOC President Siegfried Edström gave a message to the youth around the world. Portugal, Greece, Austria, Canada, Switzerland, Great Britain, Uruguay, Venezuela and Belgium Organized Olympic Day in their respective countries.
The purpose of the day is to raise awareness and to inspire and urge people to take part in the Olympic games. It encourages people to live their lives in accordance with the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship.
